Reflected Landscape 10.5 x 7.5
This artwork was part of my Painting a Day Challenge. When I moved to New York City and got a job, I was afraid I would be too tired to paint and start to lose my studio practice. To push myself to get in a habit of making work even when I'm tired, I challenged myself to make a new painting every day for a month, ideally in no more than 2 hours. It worked. I would come home around 8-9 pm, and start painting immediately. Once I was painting, I found my motivation and forgot how tired I was. It's good to show yourself what you're capable of every now and then. I asked my online audience to submit photos they'd like me to paint. This one was a photo of a lake in Scotland. I did one realistic version and one expressive version (this is the expressive version). I really like the emotion captured in the more masculine brush strokes and intensity of color.
